Greetings! I’m Arna Selznick, a director and story artist. You’ve seen the results of some of my story work when the Paw Patrol Movie was released in 2021.
Here’s a little bit about me: I fell into animation in 1980, starting as a layout artist at Nelvana Animation Studio in Toronto, Canada, on the feature film Rock and Rule.
I laid out the sequence in a tattoo parlor and storyboarded a sequence in which a sailor is electrocuted in a phone booth. The rat eating the sausage was my idea. I was lucky to do all the layouts for an Anti-Gravity Disco sequence. Great fun, with a constantly shifting ground-plane. Sometimes up was down and down was sideways.
Three years after Rock and Rule I was asked to direct the first Care Bears Movie at the studio. Thus followed nine months of seat-of-the-pants director boot camp…
I’ve had many years in the business of animation wearing all kinds of hats, from story supervising 64 episodes of the original Inspector Gadget series, to directing Nelvana’s recent 22-minute CG short The Most Magnificent Thing. There’s a list of stuff I’ve participated in on my CV. Check the link at the bottom of this page.
We are all going through a unique and strange time! It’s an exciting moment for animation. So many creative studios are able to continue and to thrive during Covid lockdown and beyond.
Thanks so much for taking a look at my stuff!
